House of Representatives Demands Investigation of Acid Attack on Activist

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - House of Representatives (DPR) has urged law enforcement officials to thoroughly investigate the acid attack on human rights activist Andrie Yunus. The House affirmed that the case must be handled transparently and accountably.
The request was submitted at a special meeting of Commission III, the House commission dealt with law enforcement, which discussed the progress of the handling of the case. At the meeting, the commission conveyed the meeting's decision regarding the House's oversight steps regarding the law enforcement process.
Chairman of Commission III, Habiburokhman, underscored that the House is paying serious attention to the violence against the activist. He stated that law enforcement officials must ensure the investigation and prosecution process is conducted transparently to avoid any public doubt.
"Commission III requests that this case be handled seriously, transparently, and professionally. We must ensure there is no public doubt about the law enforcement process," Habiburokhman conveyed in Jakarta on Monday, 16 March 2026.
He added that the House, through its oversight function, will continue to monitor the progress of the case until it is completed. This is crucial to ensure the victim receives justice while maintaining public trust in law enforcement institutions.
"We want to ensure this case is handled openly and accountably. Law enforcement officials must investigate it thoroughly," the President Prabowo-affiliated Gerindra Party legislator affimed.
Commission III also emphasized that the state has a responsibility to provide protection to every citizen from all forms of violence, including against individuals who carry out advocacy activities and monitor public policy.
Furthermore, the House reminded that handling cases of violence against activists is not only related to the criminal aspect, but also concerns efforts to maintain a healthy and safe democratic climate.
"Cases like this should not be taken lightly. The state must be present to protect its citizens and ensure justice for the victims," Habiburokhman said.
During the special meeting, Commission III affirmed its commitment to continue overseeing the handling of the Andrie Yunus acid attack case until its conclusion. The Commission will ensure that the legal process is transparent, objective, and in accordance with statutory provisions.
