RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – The Directorate General of Civil Aviation at the Ministry of Transportation has affirmed that it continues to closely monitor developments in international flight operations affected by the situation in the Middle East, while ensuring that passenger handling is carried out safely, properly, and in a coordinated manner.

“The Directorate General of Civil Aviation continues to monitor developments in international flight operations affected by the situation in the Middle East and ensures that passenger handling is conducted properly, safely, and in a coordinated manner,” said Director General of Civil Aviation Lukman F. Laisa in an official statement in Jakarta on Tuesday, March 17, 2026.

As airspace in the United Arab Emirates reopens, several airlines have begun operating limited flights. Lukman cited Emirates as an example, noting that the airline has operated limited flights to and from Jakarta and Denpasar, although operations were previously affected by a fuel storage facility disruption at Dubai Airport on March 16, 2026, causing delays and schedule adjustments.

“As the United Arab Emirates airspace reopens, several airlines have operated limited flights. Emirates has conducted limited flights to and from Jakarta and Denpasar,” Lukman said.

He added that handling of affected passengers is ongoing, including phased departures for those previously delayed. Etihad Airways has also operated limited flights and plans to increase frequency, particularly for routes from Jakarta and Denpasar to Abu Dhabi as part of contingency measures.

Meanwhile, Qatar Airways has conducted repatriation flights since March 8, 2026, and is gradually reopening limited services from Jakarta. Passenger handling, including for Umrah pilgrims, has been carried out through refund mechanisms, rescheduling, or rebooking with other airlines.

As of March 16, 2026, there are no more stranded passengers in Jeddah handled by Qatar Airways. On the other hand, airlines operating direct flights to Saudi Arabia, such as Saudi Arabian Airlines, Garuda Indonesia, Lion Air, and Flyadeal, are reported to be operating normally.

Indirect flights via third countries operated by various international airlines have also returned to normal and are ready to accommodate public travel needs.

Lukman emphasized that his office will continue to coordinate with stakeholders, including civil aviation authorities, airport operators, and airlines, to ensure smooth flight operations and provide optimal protection and services to passengers. He also urged the public to monitor official information from airlines and relevant authorities and to adjust travel plans according to the latest developments.
