RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta: Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, Arifah Fauzi, reviewed transport services to support safe Eid travel for women and children. The visit took place in Jakarta on Monday, March 16. Inspections covered Halim Perdanakusuma Airport, Kampung Rambutan Terminal, and Gambir Station.

The review aimed to ensure facilities are inclusive and responsive ahead of the 2026 Eid exodus. Authorities expect increased public mobility during the holiday period. Transport hubs are therefore considered critical service points.

Before delivering her remarks, the minister highlighted higher vulnerabilities faced by women and children during long journeys. She stressed the need for protective and child-friendly facilities at transport hubs. She then conveyed the following statement.

“During long and crowded homecoming journeys, women and children face higher vulnerabilities, ranging from fatigue due to long trips, limited child-friendly facilities, to the potential for harassment in public spaces. Therefore, the availability of women- and child-friendly facilities is very important, such as lactation rooms, children’s play areas, comfortable family waiting rooms, clear travel information systems, and responsive officers to ensure a safe and comfortable homecoming journey,” she said.

She cited a Transportation Ministry survey estimating 143.91 million travelers this Eid season. The figure represents around 50.60 percent of Indonesia’s total population. Such mobility makes airports, terminals, and stations crucial safety points.

Before explaining the purpose of the visit, she emphasized strengthening collaboration among stakeholders. She underlined the importance of fulfilling women’s and children’s rights during travel. She then delivered the following statement.

“Our visit today aims to directly review the readiness of transport services in supporting the implementation of #MudikNyamanBersama that is Women- and Child-Friendly, while also strengthening synergy between the government, transport operators, businesses, and all stakeholders to ensure the fulfillment of women’s and children’s rights during the homecoming journey,” she said.

The minister appreciated management efforts at the inspected transport hubs. Facilities include lactation rooms, children’s play areas, health rooms, and reading corners in collaboration with the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education. Airlines also provide priority pins for pregnant women from check-in to boarding.

During the visit, she encouraged parents to reduce children’s excessive gadget use. She also engaged directly in dialogue with children at the locations. She said Eid travel offers valuable time to strengthen family bonds and create meaningful memories together.
