RRI.CO.ID, Tangerang – Indonesia’s Minister of Transportation, Dudy Purwagandhi, ensured that the discounted airfare policy for the 2026 Eid homecoming period has been felt by the public after conducting a direct inspection at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Tangerang, on Monday, March 16, 2026.

Dudy said the monitoring was carried out at Terminals 1 and 2 to ensure that the homecoming flow via air transportation is running well, while also checking whether the government’s airfare discount policy, as instructed by the President, has been received by the public.

“I directly observed the homecoming flow, especially at Soekarno-Hatta Airport. At the same time, I asked passengers whether the government’s policy on airfare discounts instructed by the President has reached them and ensured that the discounted ticket stimulus can be enjoyed by the public,”Dudy conveyed.

He explained that the 2026 Eid airfare discounts come from a combination of several government policies, including value-added tax (VAT) on airline tickets being covered by the government, a reduction in fuel surcharge, and a 50 percent discount on airport tax or Passenger Service Charge (PJP2U).

In addition, there is also a 50 percent discount on airport service fees for airlines or Aircraft Landing, Parking, and Storage Services (PJP4U), discounted non-tax state revenue (PNBP) for airport services, and around a 10 percent reduction in aviation fuel (avtur) prices at 37 airports.

With this policy package, domestic airfare prices are projected to decrease by around 17–18 percent during the 2026 Eid homecoming period, for departures scheduled between March 14 and March 29, 2026.

According to Dudy, some passengers even reported receiving ticket discounts of up to 20 percent when booking well in advance. “I saw that some people enjoyed discounts of up to 20 percent from normal prices if they booked early. However, there are several aspects that we need to evaluate, particularly related to ticket pricing through online travel agents,” he said.

He noted that there are still gaps in ticket sales through online travel agents (OTA) that prevent prices from being discounted optimally. In addition, flight options involving one or more transits can make fares appear more expensive, as they represent the accumulation of multiple flights.

Dudy expressed hope that OTA providers will support the government’s policy by offering subsidized airfare so that the public can directly feel the benefits.

“We will also coordinate with stakeholders, including airlines and the Ministry of Tourism, which oversees travel agents, so that together we can provide maximum service to the public,” he said.

Overall, the minister assessed that the homecoming flow via air transportation remains conducive and running well, including in terms of on-time performance and airport service queues.
