RRI.CO.ID, Padang - Indonesia’s Minister of Culture, Fadli Zon, inaugurated the environmental redevelopment of Museum Adityawarman in Padang, West Sumatra, Thursday, March 12, 2026. The initiative is part of the government’s effort to foster museums as centers of culture and education for the public.

The museum, known for its traditional Minangkabau architecture design, represents an important symbol of cultural preservation in the region. It also serves as a major documentation center for the history and heritage of the Minangkabau community.

Minister Fadli Zon, affirmed that museums should be positioned as an active and living part of the cultural ecosystem. According to him, the redevelopment of the museum’s surrounding environment aims to create a comfortable public space that supports cultural and educational activities.

The minister also explained that the museum has received support through the Special Allocation Fund for cultural programs. The funding is aimed at supporting non-physical activities such as exhibitions, cultural events, and museum activation programs.

Museum Adityawarman currently houses more than 6,000 collections covering ethnography, archaeology, numismatics, philology, and traditional fine arts. The collections showcase the rich heritage of the Minangkabau people, including traditional clothing, musical instruments, household tools, and historical weapons.

The Indonesian government hopes improved museum management will strengthen cultural promotion and public education. Through sustainable and participatory management, museums are expected to become dynamic spaces that preserve heritage while enriching public understanding of national identity.
