RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia is stepping up efforts to safeguard children by combining digital safety measures with cultural traditions. The Ministry of Elementary and Secondary Education, under Minister Abdul Mu’ti, has reinforced its support for Government Regulation No. 17/2025 on Child Readiness (PP Tunas) through new policies aimed at creating safer school environments.

A central initiative is the issuance of Ministerial Regulation No. 6/ 2026, which establishes a Safe and Comfortable School Culture (BSAN). Minister Mu’ti explained that the regulation is designed to make schools “a second home for our children, where respect and dignity flourish.”

“This effort is carried out to build a school culture where mutual respect and honor grow, making schools a second home for our children,” he said as quoted by Antara.

To implement the policy, the ministry has introduced governance based on nine guiding principles, from humanistic to inclusive approaches. It also unveiled the “3S” framework -- Screen Time, Screen Break, and Screen Zone --as a guide for teachers and parents. Minister Mu’ti said the framework is expected to integrate character education with responsible digital use, while limiting social media access for children under 16.

At the same event, Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Arifatul Choiri Fauzi emphasized the importance of traditional games as a cultural solution to reduce gadget dependency. She argued that such games instill values of patience, fairness, and respect -- principles rooted in Pancasila.

“In traditional games, children learn to queue and respect one another regardless of cultural background. This can be one solution to reduce gadget use among children,” she concluded.

Through collaboration across ministries, the government hopes PP Tunas will provide comprehensive protection for Indonesian children, blending modern digital safeguards with timeless cultural wisdom. ***
