RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s Foreign Minister Sugiono called for the spirit of togetherness during the holy month of Ramadan to foster peace amid an uncertain global situation and ongoing conflicts in various parts of the world. Speaking at an iftar gathering with ambassadors of friendly countries as well as national and international figures in Jakarta on Thursday, March 12, 2026, Sugiono said that for Muslims, Ramadan is a time for reflection, compassion, and strengthening solidarity.

“And in the midst of a global situation that has not become easier for all of us, I hope this moment we can reflect on the spirit of solidarity, on the spirit of togetherness,” Sugiono said.

Sugiono added that the moment of breaking the fast together serves as an opportunity to nurture a sense of togetherness, which needs to be maintained amid an increasingly dynamic international situation. “And together we hope with the wisdom of the leaders of the world that the tension can de-escalate and a better future can be bestowed upon all of us,” he added.

He also expressed appreciation for the presence of ambassadors from friendly countries at the gathering, which he said reflects the enduring spirit of solidarity, friendship, and mutual respect.

The iftar event was attended by Vice Foreign Ministers Arrmanatha Nasir, Anis Matta, and Arif Havas Oegroseno, as well as representatives of Commission I of the House of Representatives (DPR RI). Rector of the Indonesian International Islamic University (UIII) Prof. Jamhari Makruf delivered a short sermon before the breaking of the fast.

Ambassadors and representatives of international organizations in Jakarta who attended the event included Russian Ambassador Sergei Tolchenov, Iranian Ambassador Mohamad Boroujerdi, and United Nations Resident Coordinator in Indonesia Gita Sabharwal.
