RRI.CO.ID, Tangerang - Narcotics smuggling has become increasingly rampant at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (SHIA) ahead of Eid al-Fitr 2026. The SHIA Customs and Excise Office has uncovered four international drug trafficking cases.

Head of the SHIA Customs and Excise Office, Hengky Tomuan Parlindungan Aritonang, detailed that the narcotics seized included methamphetamine, methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), ketamine, and etomidate. Three Indonesian citizens and three foreigners were involved in smuggling the contraband.

Hengky explained that the smuggling attempts occurred through Terminals 3, 2D, and 2F of SHIA. He said the crackdown was the result of continuous risk analysis and inter-agency coordination. “Ahead of Eid, drug smuggling has indeed become more rampant. They thought we would let our guard down during Eid, but instead we tightened it,” Hengky said on Wednesday, March 12, 2026.

The first case involved a 33-year-old foreign male, identified as KH, who arrived on a flight from Amsterdam via Dubai to Jakarta. KH is suspected of being a drug courier, using beverage packaging filled with 5,061 grams of ketamine.

The second case involved three passengers: ES, a 40-year-old Indonesian female; M, a 46-year-old Indonesian female; and AP, a 19-year-old Indonesian male. They arrived on a flight from Batam to Jakarta and are suspected of concealing drugs in their clothing.

The third case involved a 25-year-old foreign male, identified as LKY, who arrived on a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Jakarta. His method was to use beverage packaging filled with drugs.

In the fourth case, a 31-year-old foreign female, identified as SP, arrived on a flight from Don Mueang, Thailand, to Jakarta. She allegedly hid drugs in soap and coconut oil packaging.

“Every drug smuggling attempt that we successfully thwart means protecting future generations of Indonesia from the destructive effects of drugs. This is a form of government protection for the community,” Hengky said.

The Customs and Excise Office coordinated with the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Police Narcotics Investigation Unit to support the investigation and uncover the network. All suspects and evidence have been handed over to the police for further processing.

Soekarno-Hatta Airport Police Chief Commissioner Wisnu Wardana stated that the airport area is a drug red zone. He said the police are tightening collaboration with various stakeholders ahead of Eid.

The suspects are charged under Law No. 35/2009 on Narcotics, which carries a maximum penalty of death or life imprisonment. “These drug smugglers are all couriers. They are still being investigated, and we will take action in accordance with applicable regulations,” Wisnu said. (Gusti Panji/Lasti Martina)
