RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s Ministry of Culture is encouraging efforts to revitalize museums and preserve cultural heritage in Kuningan Regency, West Java. The initiative is part of broader national efforts to strengthen cultural development and heritage preservation across the country.

During a strategic meeting in Jakarta, on Wednesday, 11 March 2026, Indonesia’s Minister of Culture, Fadli Zon, held discussions with Kuningan Regent, Dian Rachmat Yanuar. The meeting focused on cultural development plans in Kuningan, including museum revitalization and strengthening the local economy through cultural tourism.

Minister Fadli said Kuningan has strong potential to become a cultural destination in West Java due to its rich heritage and historical assets. The region is home to various cultural traditions and historical sites that reflect Indonesia’s diverse cultural legacy.

“Kuningan has many historical sites that can be visited, such as the Linggarjati Negotiation Building Museum, the Sutan Sjahrir House, and several other museums,” Fadli Zon said.

He also encouraged the expansion of museum collections to strengthen the historical narrative presented to visitors. According to him, one potential addition to the museum collection is a sketch by Indonesian painter Henk Ngantung depicting the historic Linggarjati Agreement.

“One of the famous painters, Henk Ngantung, created sketches during the Linggarjati negotiations, drawing the participants who attended the meeting on the spot,” Fadli said.

Kuningan Regent, Dian Rachmat Yanuar, affirmed that preserving cultural assets is essential for maintaining the region’s historical identity. He said the local government is planning several initiatives, including revitalizing heritage sites, digitizing museum collections, and mapping cultural heritage data.

“Kuningan has deep cultural roots that can continue to be explored to support cultural development and the local economy,” Dian said. “We will work on revitalizing heritage sites, digitizing museum collections, and mapping cultural advancement objects.”

The Ministry of Culture reaffirmed its commitment to supporting cultural preservation and strengthening the cultural ecosystem in regions across Indonesia. These efforts aim to ensure that cultural heritage remains protected while providing benefits for present and future generations.
