RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s Minister of Culture, Fadli Zon, received representatives from the Prajnaparamita Foundation in Jakarta, Tuesday, March 10, 2026 to discuss plans for the Borobudur Symphony Festival, a cultural event that will combine musical performances and traditional arts. The festival is proposed to take place in the Borobudur Temple area and aims to highlight cultural collaboration between Indonesia and Southeast Asia.

The Prajnaparamita Foundation is known for producing musical performances that promote universal values through performing arts. It previously staged Siddharta the Musical in 2007 and again in 2024 in Jakarta.

The foundation also collaborated with Asia Musical Productions Malaysia to present Guan Yin The Musical in 2025 as part of cross-border cultural cooperation. These productions are designed to introduce spiritual and cultural narratives through large-scale theatrical performances.

Festival coordinator, Markus R.A. Prasetyo, said the Borobudur Symphony Festival is intended to create a cultural meeting space through performing arts. “Borobudur is a shared symbol of pride and has great potential to become a cultural stage that connects local traditions with international performances,” he said.

He added that the festival will also showcase the cultural richness of communities around Borobudur and Magelang. “We want to convey universal values and messages of kindness through art while presenting local cultural heritage on one stage in Borobudur,” Markus said.

Meanwhile, deputy coordinator, Tina A. Djakaria, explained that the festival is designed with four main principles: clear objectives, targeted audiences, strong concepts, and effective budgeting. She stressed that the event is not simply moving a musical performance from Jakarta to Borobudur, but turning the heritage site into a meeting point for cultural collaboration.

According to Tina, the festival will feature three main elements, including local wisdom from Borobudur and Magelang through traditional dance performances inspired by temple reliefs. “We want to present the harmony of Nusantara and Southeast Asian cultures on one stage through the Borobudur Symphony Festival,” she said.

Responding to the proposal, Culture Minister, Fadli Zon, welcomed the initiative to activate cultural heritage spaces through artistic performances. “We strongly support cultural activities such as Siddharta The Musical, especially since it has previously been performed successfully in Jakarta,” he said, while emphasizing that events at Borobudur must follow preservation regulations and coordination with relevant authorities.
