RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Narcotics Agency (BNN) is working to improve the quality of drug rehabilitation services by holding a training session for standards compliance officers under Indonesian National Standard (SNI) 8807:2022 at the Ministry of Manpower in East Jakarta on Monday, 9 March 2026.

As quoted by bnn.co.id, the activity aims to strengthen the understanding of regional support officers as well as managers of community-run rehabilitation institutions so they are prepared to meet the national standards for rehabilitation services.

Director of Strengthening Community-Based Rehabilitation Institutions (PLRKM) at BNN, Syamsul Bahar, affirmed that strengthening rehabilitation standards is an important step amid rising drug abuse rates in Indonesia. According to him, the quality of rehabilitation services must continue to be improved in order to meet the rising demand for services.

“The results of the 2025 drug abuse prevalence survey conducted by BNN in collaboration with the National Research and Innovation Agency show an increase of 21.9% in past-year drug use and 25.9% in lifetime users. This condition highlights that standardized rehabilitation services are increasingly urgent,” he said.

He explained that, in accordance with the mandate of Law No. 35 of 2009 on Narcotics, BNN is tasked with strengthening the capacity of medical and social rehabilitation institutions, both those managed by the government and by the community.

As of 2025, there are 615 rehabilitation institutions across Indonesia that partner with BNN. However, not all of these institutions have met national standards.

During the 2020–2025 period, only 405 rehabilitation institutions received recommendations for SNI compliance. Of these, 134 are BNN partners managed by community organizations, with 49 institutions having achieved 100% SNI compliance and 85 institutions reaching approximately 75% compliance.

“Overall, only around 19.4% of BNN partner rehabilitation institutions managed by community organizations have fully met the SNI standards. This means more intensive guidance and assistance are still needed so that these institutions can achieve the established service standards,” he conveyed.

In addition, through this training, BNN hopes that officers will gain a stronger understanding of SNI 8807:2022 and be able to assist rehabilitation institutions in their respective regions until they are ready to undergo the certification process and obtain the SNI Product Certification (SPPT SNI) from a Conformity Assessment Body (LPK).
