RRI.CO.ID, Bekasi – Special Presidential Envoy and Head of the Housing Task Force, Hashim Djojohadikusumo, has stated that the housing sector has the potential to contribute up to two percent to economic growth. He stated during the groundbreaking ceremony for subsidized apartments in the Meikarta area, West Java, on Sunday, 8 March 2026.

As part of the 3 Million Houses Program launched by President Prabowo Subianto, the government and the private sector officially began the construction of subsidized apartments in Meikarta.

The project focuses not only on providing affordable housing, but also serves as a driver for the national economy. Hashim further said that the construction of social housing contributes significantly to the government's economic targets.

“This will have a tremendous impact on our economy. I am confident that we will reach 8 percent, because from the housing sector itself, we have calculated 1.5 to 2 percent,” he said.

This growth figure is optimistic because the property and construction sectors involve many other industrial chains. Hashim detailed that there are hundreds of economic sectors that are involved when housing construction is underway.

Hashim stated, “Every rupiah we spend on housing and property has a tremendous impact. Why? Because there are 185 economic sectors related to the property, construction, and housing businesses.”

As a point of information, the 30-hectare plot of land in the Meikarta area is projected to produce around 141,000 residential units. All of these units will be allocated to low-income families.

This project's groundbreaking was attended by Housing Minister Maruarar Sirait, Investment Minister, Rosan Roeslani, Lippo Group founder,Mochtar Riady, and several government officials.
