RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia has assured that its national fuel supply remains stable as the country continues to manage energy stocks through a combination of domestic production and imports. Officials say the current system of operational reserves ensures that fuel availability remains sufficient for public demand.

A member of the National Energy Council of Indonesia, M. Kholid Syeirazi, said the public should not worry about fuel shortages as the state energy company Pertamina continues to maintain supply across the country. He emphasized that the operational stock level often cited in public discussions does not indicate an imminent shortage.

Kholid also explained that the widely mentioned fuel reserve of around 20 days refers to operational reserves managed by energy companies. These stocks function as part of a circular supply chain that is continuously replenished through imports and domestic production.

“The public should remain calm and avoid panic buying or hoarding because such actions could disrupt economic stability,” Kholid said in a statement released in Jakarta, Sunday, 8 March 2026. He stressed that fuel stocks are constantly being replenished as part of normal supply management.

Indonesia’s energy security system is supported by three types of reserves: strategic reserves, buffer energy reserves, and operational reserves. The operational reserves are maintained by energy companies, while buffer reserves are mandated by the government.

The government has regulated buffer energy reserves under Presidential Regulation No. 96 of 2024 to strengthen long-term energy security. The policy requires the state to gradually build reserves according to its fiscal capacity.

Officials also confirmed that fuel supplies remain sufficient ahead of the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Fitr. Some fuel products such as Pertalite and Pertamax currently have reserves lasting close to a month, while aviation fuel supplies are also considered adequate.

Meanwhile, Komaidi Notonegoro, Executive Director of the ReforMiner Institute, said Indonesia’s operational fuel reserves are higher than those in several neighboring countries. “For example, operational reserves in Vietnam are about 15 days and in Laos around 10 days, so Indonesia’s level is relatively strong,” he said.
