RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia considers strengthening a culture of cybersecurity crucial in facing rising digital threats, which are occurring amid global geopolitical dynamics.
The issue was highlighted during the Information Security Culture Day (HKKI) event organized by the Indonesian Cyber Independence Forum (Formasi) in Jakarta. Formasi Coordinator Gildas Deograt said technological developments have increasingly blurred the line between the real and digital worlds.
Community, business, and government activities are now highly dependent on digital systems and the internet. According to Gildas, this dependence means threats in cyberspace can directly affect real life. “Cyber threats can have a direct impact on real life. Therefore, cybersecurity has become a strategic issue for Indonesia,” he said in Jakarta on Saturday, March 7, 2026.
Gildas explained that the HKKI commemoration also serves as a reminder for all elements across Indonesia to strengthen independence in cyberspace, including securing the supply chains of digital products and services.
Cybersecurity Awareness Day was first declared on March 7, 2007, by the Information Security Community (KKI), the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN), the Technology Assessment and Application Agency (BPPT), and other information technology communities.
Over time, the government has established institutions and regulations to reinforce national cybersecurity. These include the Indonesian Security Incident Response Team on Internet Infrastructure (Id-SIRTII), the Indonesian Police Cyber Crime Directorate, the Ministry of Defense Cyber Defense Center, and BSSN.
In addition, the government has enacted the Electronic Information and Transaction Law (UU ITE) and the Personal Data Protection Law (UU PDP). Meanwhile, Pradita University Rector Prof. Eko Indrajit emphasized that collaboration between the government, academics, and the community is essential to strengthening cybersecurity.
“Integrating national policies with good digital security governance can shape public behavior patterns. The public can also become aware of the significance of information security,” Eko said. (Gusti Panji/Lasti Martina)
