RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian Minister of Agriculture, Andi Amran Sulaiman, has confirmed that Indonesia’s national food supply remains stable and under control. Based on data from March 2026, rice availability is sufficient to meet long-term needs.
Minister Amran assured the public that rice stocks are adequate. “The total national rice stock is sufficient for the next 324 days, or approximately 10.8 months,” he said in a statement on Saturday, March 7, 2026.
He explained that national rice production ranges from 2.6 million to 5.7 million tons per month, exceeding the national average consumption of 2.59 million tons per month.
Current national rice availability stands at 27.99 million tons, consisting of 3.76 million tons held by the state-owned logistics company Perum Bulog, around 12.50 million tons of public stock, and 11.73 million tons of standing crop ready for harvest.
From January to May 2026, rice production reached about 16.92 million tons, with monthly output ranging from 2.6 to 5.7 million tons. “In addition to ongoing production, existing stocks are estimated to be sufficient to meet demand for almost a year ahead,” Minister Amran said.
Government rice stocks managed by Bulog continue to rise, reaching 3.7 million tons. In the next two months, these stocks are projected to exceed 5 million tons as harvests from various regions enter the market.
According to Minister Amran, national agricultural production remains high despite global challenges, including tensions in the Middle East involving Iran, the United States, and Israel. “Our production remains stable, and in some months it could reach 5.7 million tons, ensuring a strong domestic supply,” Minister Amran stated.
