RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – The Ministry of Creative Economy/Creative Economy Agency held a Writing Workshop as part of its efforts to strengthen women's literacy and develop creative economy talent in conjunction with Creative Ramadan. In a press release received by RRI Voice of Indonesia on Thursday, 5 March 2026, Agustini Rahayu, Deputy for Media Creativity, emphasized that literacy and writing are essential foundations in the creative economy, which relies on ideas and creativity.
"Data from the International Publishers Association shows that more than 50 percent of publishing leaders in the UK are women, and in the United States, around three-quarters of the workforce in this sector are also women. This proves that writing is a strategic area for women's leadership and empowerment," Agustini said in her remarks at the event, which took place at the Pesona Indonesia Film Building.
She added that women's role in building a culture of family literacy is crucial for the quality of future generations. In addition to its social impact, writing also has economic value, becoming increasingly relevant in the digital era and becoming part of the creative economy, Indonesia's new engine of growth.
Agustini emphasized that the publishing and photography subsector is one of the Ministry of Creative Economy's development priorities. By 2029, the government is targeting the development of 4,000 talents in this subsector as part of its strategy to strengthen the nation's creative economy human resources.
Meanwhile, Siti Nurjanah Cecep Rukendi, Head of the Ministry of Creative Economy's Creative Economy Development Agency (DWP), stated that writing is not just a skill, but a means of leaving a legacy of ideas and values. She hopes this workshop will encourage participants to take the plunge and consistently create, as the creative industry continues to grow, requiring strong narratives for film, animation, comics, and games.
"Through writing, we can share experiences and inspire many people. Short stories are an effective entry point for writing because they convey meaning concisely yet powerfully," she said.
The workshop featured Isa Alamsyah, Founder & CEO of KBM App, who shared strategies for building a digital writing ecosystem and utilizing technology, including artificial intelligence (AI), in the creative process. According to Isa, AI can be a tool to increase productivity, as long as writers maintain control over their ideas and the direction of their stories.
