RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has issued an early warning regarding Indonesia's climate conditions in 2026. The dry season this year is predicted to arrive earlier, last longer, and be accompanied by drier-than-normal rainfall.

The Head of BMKG, Teuku Faisal Fathani, In a press conference in Jakarta on Wednesday, 4 March 2026, stated that most regions of Indonesia will begin entering the dry season from April to June 2026.

He explained that the weak La Niña phenomenon, which had previously affected weather patterns, ended in February, and the current climate index conditions are in a neutral phase.

Nevertheless, the BMKG is paying special attention to the duration of this year's dry season, which is predicted to exceed normal conditions in more than 57 percent of the seasonal zone areas in Indonesia. "So it should be noted that the dry season we will face in 2026 will be longer than normal," Faisal conveyed.

In addition to being longer in duration, the nature of the rain during the 2026 dry season is expected to fall into the below-normal category. Deputy for Climatology at BMKG, Ardhasena Soepahilwakan, explained that these conditions will make the weather feel drier compared to previous years, with the peak of the dry season predicted to occur in August 2026.

"The rainfall during the 2026 dry season is generally predicted to be below normal or drier. The peak period of the dry season is predicted to mostly occur in August 2026," Ardhasena said.

In response to these conditions, the BMKG recommends precautionary measures in various sectors, starting from adjusting planting schedules in the agricultural sector, optimizing reservoir filling for water and energy reserves, to enhancing preparedness for potential forest and land fires in vulnerable areas.
