RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto visited the Museum Nasional Indonesia in Jakarta, Monday 2 March 2026, underscoring Indonesia’s commitment to strengthening cultural institutions. The visit took place during the holy month of Ramadan and was accompanied by Minister of Culture, Fadli Zon, and other senior officials.

During the tour, the President reviewed the permanent exhibition on Indonesia’s early history, including the repatriated Java Man collection. He also explored the Sculpture Garden and a photography exhibition titled Negeri Elok, which showcases the country’s historical journey and cultural diversity.

Minister Fadli Zon said the President expressed appreciation for the museum’s renewed layout and thematic presentation. “The President was very pleased with the new arrangement of the National Museum, including the Early Civilization exhibition and the Negeri Elok exhibition,” Fadli said.

According to the minister, the President hopes that similar revitalization efforts can be extended to regional museums across the archipelago. Strengthening local museums, he noted, is essential to expanding public access to history and cultural education.

The President also met with around 15 participants of the National Talent Management Program in Arts and Culture, particularly in visual arts. The selected participants are expected to take part in international art residency programs.

The visit highlighted the museum’s role as a reflective space that fosters national identity and collective memory. Officials said the President’s presence reaffirmed government support for museums as strategic educational and cultural institutions.

The government has intensified efforts to modernize museum management and protect cultural heritage nationwide. “Throughout 2025, the ministry revitalized 152 cultural heritage sites and museums across Indonesia to strengthen the protection of national heritage,” Fadli stated.

The visit signals Indonesia’s broader push to preserve its historical legacy while positioning cultural institutions as pillars of soft power and international engagement. Authorities hope continued investment in museums will enhance global understanding of Indonesia’s rich and diverse heritage.
