Indonesian Military Drafts Integrated Command for Guerrilla Warfare

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian Army, Navy and Air Force, along with representatives from the Directorate General of Defense Strategy of the Indonesian Ministry of Defense, held a three-dimensional focus group discussion (FGD). The event took place in the Multipurpose Room IG. Dewanto Detachment Headquarters of the Indonesian Air Force, Jakarta, on Monday, 2 March 2026.

Coordinator of Expert Staff (Koorsahli) Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Air Force (KSAU), First Marshal TNI Andi Wijaya, conveyed the need for a cross-service forum involving TNI personnel to strengthen the foundation of strategic thinking.

"Through this three-dimensional FGD, I hope there will be a mutual understanding and perception in formulating the concept of aerial guerrilla warfare into a unified command framework along with land and naval guerrilla warfare," Andi stated in a press release from the TNI AU Information Service, Tuesday, 3 March 2026.

Previously, the Indonesian Minister of Defense, Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, stated that the concept of active defense remains the direction and national policy in the field of defense. This was conveyed by Sjafrie during the leadership meeting of the Ministry of Defense-TNI at the National Defense Council (DPN) building, Jakarta, Monday, 19 January 2026.

"We are only carrying out active defensive defense solely to maintain and safeguard the existence of the sovereignty of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI)," Sjafrie stated.

Sjafrie also urged the ranks of the Ministry of Defense and the TNI not to let threats come. The threat includes both physical and psychological aspects.

"Therefore, we as guardians and protectors of the nation's sovereignty must also be ready to take various (preventive and) preemptive measures, so that we are prepared for a prolonged war in defending independence and the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI)," he said.

The FGD featured several speakers from the ranks of the TNI and the Ministry of Defense. This forum raised the theme "Reforming Guerrilla Warfare in Facing Prolonged Wars in the Modern Era."
