President Affirms Indonesia's Readiness in Iran Mediation

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto affirmed Indonesia’s readiness to mediate escalating tensions in the Middle East, especially in Iran. He also instructed anticipatory measures to protect Indonesian citizens amid shifting regional tensions.
These were delivered during a gathering and discussion at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta on Tuesday, 3 March 2026. "The president conveyed some developments in global and domestic situations, including the situation in the Middle East," Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono, stated after the gathering.
According to him, the president also reaffirmed Indonesia's readiness to facilitate meditation to de-escalate the situation. Meanwhile, Sugiono said Indonesia expressed regret over the failure of prior talks and resulted in escalation.
Indonesia reaffirmed the principles of respect for regional integrity and sovereignty of a nation. Additionally, Indonesia also reaffirmed the importance for another negotiation.
To the press Minister Sugiono also mentioned his communication with Iran's foreign minister. He said that Iran had affirmed their position, while Indonesia also maintained its consistent position.
While the situation is still dynamic, the government will be monitoring closely the development. "The president also said whatever happens, we must be prepared for all scenarios," he said.
Regarding protection of Indonesian citizens. Minister Sugiono said the government had taken anticipatory measures to protect Indonesian citizens following escalation in the region. He has instructed the Indonesian ambassador in Tehran to prepare for evacuation measure.
“Some citizens in Iran have expressed willingness to be evacuated and we will conduct phased evacuations,” he said. However, he clarified that not all Indonesians in affected areas requested evacuation.
