RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta — The Indonesian government is prioritizing the safety of Umrah pilgrims amid the volatile security situation in the Middle East and the dynamics of international aviation. The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah is implementing mitigation measures to ensure protection for pilgrims.

Ichsan Marsha, spokesperson for the ministry, said the return process is continuing in stages. “From February 28 to March 1, 2026, 6,047 pilgrims returned home safely. The government continues to monitor this process to ensure that all pilgrims can return gradually and in an orderly manner,” he said in Jakarta on Monday, March 2, 2026, as reported on the ministry’s official website.

On Saturday, February 28, 2026, 4,200 Umrah pilgrims returned to Indonesia on 12 flights. The following day, Sunday, March 1, 2026, 2,047 pilgrims returned on five flights.

There are 43,363 prospective pilgrims scheduled to depart before the Hajj season begins on April 18, 2026. They are registered with 439 Umrah Travel Organizers (PPIUs), officially licensed agencies with operating permits.

The ministry emphasized that each PPIU must fulfill its responsibilities, from departure to ensuring the safe return of pilgrims. The government also encouraged communication between organizers and pilgrims to avoid misunderstandings.

“We ensure that every PPIU fulfills its obligations fully, from the pilgrims’ departure to their service during their stay in Saudi Arabia and their return. This responsibility must not be neglected,” Ichsan said.

Regarding protection abroad, the government is coordinating with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Indonesian representatives overseas. “We are working with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Indonesian representatives abroad to quickly and appropriately handle all pilgrim issues. Pilgrims facing legal, emergency, or protection issues in Saudi Arabia or transit countries should contact their local Indonesian Embassy or Consulate General. Remain calm and follow official instructions,” Ichsan added.

To prioritize safety, the Ministry of Hajj also urged Umrah pilgrims scheduled to depart soon to postpone their trips until conditions in the Middle East return to normal. ***
