RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The sixth Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, Try Sutrisno, passed away on Monday morning, March 2, 2026, at the Gatot Subroto Army Hospital (RSPAD), Jakarta. He was 90.

The news was confirmed by Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi. “It is true, the sixth Vice President, Try Sutrisno, has passed away. We are deeply saddened,” Minister Prasetyo told reporters in Jakarta on Monday, March 2, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

The government has instructed RSPAD Jakarta, the Permanent Garrison Command I/Jakarta, and the Ministry of State Secretariat to provide the best possible care for the body’s preparation and burial, which will be held with military honors. “I have asked RSPAD, the Garrison, and the State Secretariat to provide the best possible care,” Minister Prasetyo said.

News of Try Sutrisno’s death was first conveyed by his family and later confirmed by the Pancasila Ideology Development Agency (BPIP). Several officials within the Ministry of State Secretariat and the Presidential Security Forces (Paspampres) also confirmed the news.

According to information received, the body will undergo ritual cleansing (ghusl) at RSPAD before being taken to the funeral home on Jalan Purwakarta No. 6, Menteng, Central Jakarta.

Try Sutrisno was a retired Indonesian Army general who served as the sixth Vice President of Indonesia from 1993 to 1998. His military career began in 1957, when he was involved in the operation to crush the PRRI rebellion, a separatist movement that emerged in Sumatra.

In 1972, he attended the Army Staff and Command College (Seskoad), and two years later was appointed as an aide to President Soeharto.

In 1988, he succeeded General L.B. Moerdani as Commander of the Indonesian Armed Forces (ABRI), reaching the peak of his military career. In this role, he was actively engaged in security initiatives across various regions of Indonesia.

During the 1993–1998 term, he served as Vice President in the Sixth Development Cabinet. The cabinet was announced on March 17, 1993, began on March 19, 1993, and ended on March 11, 1998.
