RRI.CO.ID, Tuban - Indonesian Ministry of Public Works has confirmed that national roads in Java are ready to support the 2026 Eid al-Fitr exodus.
Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo conveyed this assurance while inspecting the readiness of the national road network in East Java Province to ensure smooth and safe traffic during the holiday season.
“We must ensure that national roads in East Java are safe and comfortable for the public, especially motorcycle riders,” Dody said in Tuban, East Java, on Sunday, March 1, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
Various measures are being taken to accelerate repairs and improve road stability to anticipate potential traffic disruptions during peak travel periods.
East Java has a total of 2,261.68 kilometers of national roads, divided into 358 sections and supported by 973 bridges spanning 34,807.36 meters. Most sections are in good or moderate condition, with a stability level above 80 percent. To date, 13,306 potholes have been repaired out of 14,132 recorded, leaving 826 still under repair.
The Ministry of Public Works, through the East Java–Bali National Road Implementation Center (BBPJN), has identified areas prone to congestion and accidents, including the border between Bangkalan City and Sampang Regency and the Alas Baluran area in Banyuwangi.
Supervision has been strengthened at these locations, warning signs have been added, and coordination with the police and relevant agencies has been intensified to maintain traffic flow and ensure road safety.
Several locations prone to flooding and landslides have also received attention, such as the Ngoro–Mojosari, Ploso–Pacitan–Hadiwarno, and Bangil–Pasuruan sections, as well as the Malang Regency–Lumajang City border, including the Turen segment from km 54+500 to km 60+150.
Personnel and equipment have been placed on standby to ensure a rapid response in the event of disruptions caused by extreme weather. BBPJN East Java–Bali has also prepared Eid route posts in various regional work units as integrated monitoring and coordination centers.
On the western Pantura (North Coast) route, the Ministry of Public Works, through the Jakarta–West Java National Road Implementation Agency (BBPJN), is expediting pothole repairs to ensure the roads can handle the surge in traffic during the peak exodus season.
“There were reportedly around 7,000 potholes, but now they have dropped drastically to 2,500. We can ensure that almost all of them will be pothole-free before the exodus,” Minister Dody said.
In the short term, repairs are being carried out through patching to maintain smooth traffic flow. In the medium term, the ministry is preparing to resurface and upgrade construction to rigid pavement or concrete at several critical points to improve durability.
Similar attention is being paid to the Pemalang–Pekalongan section, a crucial part of the strategic Pantura corridor known for high traffic volumes, especially logistics vehicles and public transportation.
Preservation work on this section includes repairing the pavement structure in several priority segments. As of the end of February 2026, 78.89 percent of the work had been completed, surpassing the planned target of 37.66 percent.
Maintenance is also being carried out on the Trans Java toll road. As of February 26, 2026, PT Jasamarga Transjawa Tol (JTT) had completed patching work at 172 locations on Lane A towards Cikampek, from km 07+500 to km 71+850.
Maintenance is also planned at 82 points on Lane B towards Jakarta, from km 71+300 to km 19+315, including repairs on the East Cikarang off-ramp. Reconstruction work has also been carried out at the Dry Port off-ramp to strengthen pavement structures in areas with heavy traffic loads.
With accelerated repairs on the Pantura route and the Trans Java toll road, the government aims to ensure that the 2026 Eid exodus proceeds smoothly and safely for millions of travelers returning to their hometowns. ***
