RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesia’s Ministry of Defense plans to train approximately 4,000 civil servants (ASN) as members of the Reserve Components in April 2026. The program aims to foster national defense by incorporating personnel from various sectors.

Head of the Defense Information Bureau of the Ministry of Defense Secretariat General, Brigadier General TNI Rico Ricardo Sirait, conveyed that the Ministry will allocate quotas to each ministry. According to him, the number of civil servants participating in the training will depend on the decision of each respective ministry.

“The requirements are voluntary. Therefore, there is no element of compulsion or obligation whatsoever,” Rico stated in Central Jakarta on Wednesday, 25 February 2026.

The selection process will be conducted with strict criteria to ensure that participants meet the established requirements. The screening aims to ensure that participants are in good health and physical condition, and that there are no conditions that could hinder their performance during the training.

Regarding gender, Rico stated that the matter is up to each respective institution or ministry. Registration and participant selection will be conducted internally within each ministry.

“Usually it will be determined, for example, if Ministry A has 1,000 personnel and Ministry B has 500, then the quota from Ministry A might only be 50 people, and Ministry B only 10 people. The quota is adjusted to the number of human resources available in each ministry,” Rico explained related to the quota mechanism.

Previously, the plan to designate civil servants as Reserve Components was also conveyed by Vice Minister of Defense Donny Ermawan Taufanto at the House of Representatives Building in Jakarta on Tuesday, 10 February 2026. He stated that the government intends to integrate all civil servants into the national “total defense” system.

“We hope to make all civil servants part of the Reserve Component,” Donny said.

As an initial step, Donny revealed that his office has requested civil servants from 49 ministries/agencies to participate in the Reserve Component training next April. He mentioned that the training will last for two months. After completion, the civil servants will return to their respective offices to resume their duties.
