RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing in the global technology industry by strengthening its strategic partnership with India.
The government aims to shift its role from supplier of raw materials toa key player in the semiconductor and artificial intelligence (AI) supply chain.
Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Nezar Patria conveyed the commitment at the India-Indonesia Critical Mineral Conference in South Jakarta on Tuesday, February 24, 2026. He emphasized the importance of managing critical minerals as the foundation for developing future technology industries.
“This is why this conference is very crucial. We not only intend to sell materials to you, but also to build a technology-based critical mineral framework,” Nezar said in his remarks, as quoted on the ministry’s official website.
He stated that Indonesia no longer wants to remain on the fringes of the semiconductor and AI industry value chain. The government, he added, is directing policies to ensure that national mineral resources deliver high added value through technology-based downstream processing.
Nezar highlighted India’s success in accelerating its technology ecosystem through the “Make in India” program, which he observed firsthand during the AI Impact Summit in India last week.
He noted Tata Group’s initiative to build an AI-based data center and develop network innovations that bring supercomputing to desktops. “India is not only participating in the future but also building it,” he said.
As a follow-up, Indonesia offered three collaboration agendas with India. The first is investment in mineral processing facilities in Indonesia to produce high-quality electronic materials.
The second is strengthening human resources through knowledge transfer and the development of semiconductor engineering talent. The third is the development of a supply chain resilience corridor by connecting Indonesian resources and Indian manufacturing to create a robust and efficient supply system. ***
