BMKG Strengthens Weather Support for 2026 Eid Transport

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta: Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reaffirmed support for the 2026 Eid Transport period. Head of BMKG, Teuku Faisal Fathani made the statement at the Coordination Meeting on Preparations for the 2026 Eid Transport in Jakarta, Tuesday, 24 February 2026.
He conveyed the commitment at the Ministry of Transportation headquarters. He said BMKG provides accurate and integrated weather, climate, and early warning information. Cross-sector coordination has been underway since early February.
Eid transport is a national agenda with very high mobility during the rainy season. Before presenting the outlook, Faisal stressed the importance of meteorological information for transportation safety.
He underlined its role for land, sea, and air operations. The following is his statement.

Before presenting the outlook, Faisal stressed the importance of meteorological information for transportation safety. He underlined its role for land, sea, and air operations. The following is his statement
"Meteorological information plays a crucial role in supporting the safety and smooth operation of land, sea, and air transportation during the Eid al-Fitr celebrations and the upcoming Eid al-Fitr holiday," he said.
Faisal presented weather projections for February and March 2026. February rainfall ranges from low to high categories. Very high rainfall potential exists in West Java, Central Java, East Nusa Tenggara, and South Sulawesi.
In March, rainfall generally remains within similar categories. Very high rainfall potential is forecast in West Java, Central Java, South Sulawesi, and Central Papua. Extreme weather may still occur when entering Eid, especially in West Java and Central Java.
Meanwhile, Minister of Transportation, Dudy Purwagandhi, emphasized four keys to successful 2026 Eid Transport. They include safety and security, attention to detail, synergy, and vigilance. He appreciated BMKG’s weather updates supporting cross-sector decisions.
BMKG also encourages integrated mitigation, including Weather Modification Operations conducted based on scientific considerations. A total of 191 BMKG technical units and 38 provincial posts are on standby. The Indonesian government aims for zero accident and zero fatality during the 2026 Eid Transport period.
