RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s Ministry of Culture held a gathering ahead of Ramadan to highlight the holy month as both a spiritual and cultural moment. The event took place in Jakarta 18 February 2026, bringing together senior officials and staff members.

The gathering, themed “The Beauty of Religious Tolerance in the Archipelago,” was held at the Ministry’s headquarters auditorium. Officials described it as an opportunity to strengthen unity and reinforce institutional commitment ahead of Ramadan 1447 Hijri.

Secretary General, Bambang Wibawarta, said the event reflected gratitude and solidarity within the ministry. “As we approach the holy month of Ramadan, we gather in thanksgiving while strengthening our bonds and shared commitment,” he said in his remarks.

He emphasized that Ramadan should not only be observed spiritually but also approached with professionalism and integrity in public service. Bambang added that the momentum should enhance synergy in advancing Indonesia’s cultural agenda.

Minister of Culture, Fadli Zon, said Ramadan in Indonesia represents a living cultural expression beyond religious observance. He noted that traditions such as iftar, or the breaking of the fast, have been recognized as intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO through submissions by several Middle Eastern countries, including Turkey.

Indonesia, he said, is currently working to have its own iftar traditions included in an extension listing. “Iftar is a cultural event with distinctive local expressions in every region, reflecting the richness of our archipelago,” Fadli stated.

The minister also highlighted the diversity of Ramadan culinary traditions across Indonesia, from light snacks known as takjil to regional dishes served at sunset. He said these practices illustrate how spiritual values and cultural identity are intertwined in everyday life.

Moreover, Fadli extended his greetings for Ramadan 1447 Hijri and encouraged ministry staff to use the month as a time of renewal and reconciliation. Officials said the gathering underscored Indonesia’s commitment to promoting tolerance and cultural unity during one of the most significant periods in the Islamic calendar.
