RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The strong bond between the Aceh diaspora in Malaysia and the people of Aceh in Indonesia was on full display. During a meeting on "Post-Disaster Recovery in Sumatra" in Jakarta on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian, disclosed that aid worth hundreds of billions of rupiah from Malaysia is set to be shipped from Port Klang to Lhokseumawe Port.

“There are 3,000 liters of cooking oil worth 1 billion rupiah, granulated sugar worth approximately 50 million rupiah, and 672 million rupiah worth of mineral water. There are also 5,000 boxes of ready-to-eat meals valued at 1 billion rupiah, but the largest portion is new clothing, 3,000 sacks worth 126 billion rupiah. Additionally, there are Al-Qu'rans worth 1 billion and toilet units valued at 4.8 billion,” he explained.

Minister Tito stated that this aid is purely a grassroots effort from Aceh families living in Malaysia, rather than an initiative from the government or Non-Governmental Organization (NGO). However, the massive volume initially faced import regulation hurdles, as sensitive goods like oil, sugar, and clothing raised concerns about potentially disrupting the domestic market.

He assured that all items would be distributed directly to those affected by the disaster. He promised strict supervision by collaborating with various authorities.

“We will oversee it directly from the port. We will work together with the TNI and Polri to ensure the goods go straight to the displacement camps and are not sold elsewhere. We are ready to take full responsibility for this,” he said.

Minister Tito stated that the TNI (Indonesian Military ), Polri (Indonesian Police), and BNPB (National Disaster Management Agency) will directly escort the distribution from the port to the hands of the victims. This step is taken to ensure the aid does not leak into the public market and instead reaches the disaster victims in time for the holy month of Ramadan and the Eid al-Fitr holidays.
