RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – The Deputy Speaker of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Dave Laksono, has lauded Indonesia's participation in the inaugural session of the Board of Peace (BoP) as a strategic milestone.
He emphasized that Indonesia's presence is vital to ensuring that the voices of developing nations are represented in the global architecture of peace and stability.
According to Dave, Indonesia must continue to advocate for the principles of justice, equality, and respect for international law, with a specific focus on the rights of the Palestinian people. Given that the Palestinian authorities have not yet joined the board, he viewed this as part of an ongoing diplomatic process.
Dave asserted that Indonesia's involvement in the BoP transcends mere symbolism. It represents a tangible effort to build a peace governance system that is both inclusive and sustainable.
"Indonesia's participation is not just as a symbol, but also as a real contribution to building an inclusive and sustainable peace governance," Dave said in Jakarta on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
He further noted that any peace forum achieves true meaning only when it creates space for all parties to engage in constructive dialogue. In this light, the BoP has the potential to become a platform that truly represents global aspirations for peace, rather than just the interests of a select few powerful nations.
The Deputy Speaker also highlighted the significance of President Prabowo Subianto’s visit to the United States to attend the first BoP session. He described this move as a critical step in demonstrating Indonesia’s commitment to supporting global peace efforts.
"Indonesia's presence in this forum confirms our active role as a nation that always prioritizes diplomacy, dialogue, and peaceful solutions in facing international challenges," he added.
To ensure these diplomatic efforts yield results, Dave confirmed that Commission I of the DPR RI will rigorously perform its oversight function. The commission aims to ensure that Indonesia's membership in the BoP brings strategic benefits to national interests while strengthening the country's position as a global pioneer of peace. ***
