RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto chaired a limited cabinet meeting at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Thursday, February 12, 2026.
The meeting discussed accelerating the development of the Merah Putih Fishermen’s Village and strengthening the national fisheries industry ecosystem through shipyard consolidation and downstreaming initiatives.
Marine Affairs and Fisheries Ministry Sakti Wahyu Trenggono said the construction of the Merah Putih Fishermen’s Village continues to show significant progress. He explained that the first phase covers 65 locations. “Progress has reached 50 percent of phase one, and hopefully it can be completed by February,” Trenggono said, as quoted on the Presidential Secretariat website.
The meeting also focused on strengthening the fisheries ecosystem within an integrated management framework. Head of the State-Owned Enterprises Investment Authority (BP BUMN) Dony Oskaria said the Fishermen’s Village will be part of an ecosystem managed by state-owned PT Agrinas Jaladri Nusantara (Persero). “This will be managed through Jaladri, which will focus on optimizing the potential of our seas and boosting productivity in the fisheries industry,” Dony said.
He noted that the development of the Fishermen’s Village must go beyond physical infrastructure and include business preparation, such as offtake arrangements for production.
He added that strengthening the shipbuilding industry is an important part of the strategy and expressed appreciation for the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries’ efforts to support its growth. “This industry has grown from the ministry’s initiatives, and consolidating our shipyards will optimize capacity,” he said.
Shipyard consolidation will be carried out under state-owned shipbuilder PT PAL as part of strengthening national capacity. Dony said the process is targeted for completion soon and will create new jobs, particularly for graduates in naval engineering and related fields.
“Jaladri will not only develop upstream but also downstream. Derivative industries from fisheries will be expanded on a large scale, and this will generate significant employment growth,” he said.
Dony emphasized that the policy reflects a broader shift in national economic orientation. He underlined the importance of building an economy based on domestic strengths. “The hope is that more jobs can be created and our economic base will return to our own strengths. We have the sea, we have food. This must also be conveyed to the public,” he said.
