RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian government is committed to building a national hydrogen ecosystem as part of a major strategy for energy transition and resilience. This commitment is continuously strengthened through the acceleration of hydrogen development to support the national energy transformation while achieving the Net Zero Emission (NZE) target by 2060.

The commitment was emphasized by the Vice Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Yuliot Tanjung, during the opening of the Global Hydrogen Ecosystem Summit & Exhibition (GHES) 2026 in Jakarta, Tuesday 10 February 2026. According to him, the organization of GHES 2026 serves as a strategic momentum to consolidate Indonesia's role in the development of the hydrogen ecosystem at the global level, while also strengthening Indonesia's position on the world energy transition map.

Moreover, Yuliot also believes that the international forum is important for building collaboration and bringing in the technological innovations needed for hydrogen industrialization. "Of course, the government is very interested in the existence of the Global Hydrogen Ecosystem Summit, because we see from the ecosystem side how we can bring technology for the implementation of hydrogen industrialization and its utilization for the overall economic ecosystem," Yuliot stated.

He explained that hydrogen development cannot be viewed solely as an energy agenda, but rather as part of the national economic transformation. Hydrogen is considered to have great potential to drive industrial downstreaming, strengthen food security thru support for the fertilizer and ammonia sectors, and significantly reduce carbon emissions.

With an integrated ecosystem approach, the government aims to ensure that hydrogen development adds value to various strategic sectors.
Furthermore, Yuliot emphasized his hope that Indonesia would not only become a consumer or market for hydrogen technology but would also be able to become a major player in the global supply chain.

"And it is expected that this will contribute globally as a whole and make Indonesia a center for the overall development of the hydrogen ecosystem," he asserted.

The government also views cross-sector collaboration as key to building a strong and sustainable hydrogen ecosystem. The synergy between the government, industry players, academics, and international partners is deemed crucial to accelerate technology transfer, financing, and the development of human resources in the field of clean energy.

The Global Hydrogen Ecosystem Summit & Exhibition (GHES) 2026 is scheduled to take place on July 21–23, 2026, at the Assembly Hall Jakarta International Convention Center (JICC). This forum is expected to serve as a strategic platform to strengthen cooperation in the development of hydrogen and ammonia, while also supporting the major agenda of the national energy transition toward Net Zero Emission 2060.
