RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto convened a landmark strategic meeting with a broad spectrum of foreign policy experts, academics, and veteran diplomats at the Merdeka Palace on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, to solidify a unified national stance on Indonesia’s international trajectory under the current administration.
The meeting included a prestigious roster of observers, former Ministers and Deputy Ministers of Foreign Affairs, practitioners, and leadership from Commission I of the House of Representatives (DPR RI). Foreign Minister Sugiono, who accompanied the President, noted that the forum served as a platform for the President to exercise his role as the ultimate architect of the nation's external affairs.
"(The meeting) is intended to explain, discuss, and convey the direction of Indonesia's foreign policy, where he, as head of state and head of government, holds full sovereignty as the determinant of Indonesia's foreign policy and policy direction," said Minister Sugiono following the session, as quoted by Presidential Secretariat official website.
Unlike traditional briefings, the session was characterized by an open, two-way exchange of ideas. Minister Sugiono described the atmosphere as collaborative, with various figures offering perspectives that largely aligned with the government's current strategic considerations.
"Each of the figures also expressed their views, thoughts, and considerations, which I believe were essentially coherent, shared in the same considerations and thoughts, so I believe the discussion that took place was mutually reinforcing," Sugiono explained.
He further noted that while different perspectives were shared, there was no fundamental "pro and contra" conflict; rather, the participants arrived at a shared understanding of Indonesia’s global interests.
Looking ahead, the government plans to institutionalize these consultations into a routine agenda. The goal is to ensure that the nation’s diplomatic community remains on the "same frequency" regarding the President’s policy directions.
"As previously stated, the directive is to make similar events a regular event, so that a common understanding and frequency can be achieved regarding the direction and policies of the government led by the President, particularly regarding foreign policy," the Foreign Minister concluded, expressing deep appreciation for the active participation of the invited seniors and experts. ***
