RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta -  Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has made a visit to France and met with French President Emmanuel Macron on January 23, 2026. The meeting of the two heads of government at the Champ Elysee Palace resulted in an agreement to strengthen bilateral cooperation in economics, defense and security, agriculture and sustainable development, research and innovation.

The cooperation priorities are agriculture and research and innovation. This has received a positive response from the French government with the visit of the President Director of the International Cooperation Center for Agricultural Research for Development (CIRAD), Madame Elisabeth Claverie de Saint Martin.

Madame Elisabeth's visit  to Indonesia from February 2-5, 2026, demonstrated France's seriousness in building agricultural cooperation with Indonesia. During her stay in Indonesia, she met with several officials and agricultural stakeholders to follow up on the meeting between the Indonesian President and the French President.

She also visited the ASEAN Secretariat to discuss regional cooperation prospects in sustainable agriculture and agronomic research. This is in line with CIRAD's focus as a French agricultural research and expertise agency.

CIRAD focuses on agriculture in tropical regions and has been present in around 50 countries worldwide. In Indonesia, CIRAD has existed for over 40 years and has developed agricultural modernization programs with Indonesian partners.

The cooperation between CIRAD and Indonesia has produced several programs beneficial to Indonesian agricultural development. With Madame Elisabeth's visit, it is hoped that this cooperation can be further enhanced.

CIRAD will continue to support sustainable agricultural development in Indonesia and enhance human resource capacity in agriculture. This aligns with France's commitment to bolstering cooperation with Indonesia in agriculture and innovation.
