RRI.CO.ID. Jakarta -. The Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture emphasizes the importance of strengthening inclusive climate change policies that are gender-just and based on human rights (HAM) as an integral part of sustainable human development.
This affirmation was conveyed through the Policy Research Dissemination event titled "Strengthening Inclusive Climate Policies for Indonesia through a Gender and Human Rights Perspective" held in Jakarta, Tuesday, 27 January 2026.
The event was organized by the ministry in collaboration with Pijar Foundation, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and UN Women, as part of the EMPOWER II program series that has been running in Indonesia since 2023.
This forum serves as a strategic space to present policy study results and strengthen cross-sector coordination in responding to the multidimensional impacts of the climate crisis on human development.
The launch and dissemination of the policy study were attended by key officials from various ministries and institutions, including Woro Srihastuti Sulistyaningrum, Deputy for Family Quality Improvement Coordination at the ministry; Amurwani Dwi Lestariningsih, Deputy for Gender Equality at the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection; Iis Yulianti, Chairperson of Pentahelix at the Directorate of Disaster Preparedness, BNPB; Nico Barlev Marhehe, Programme Management at UNEP Indonesia; and Edriana Noerdin, Program Director at Women Research Institute.
The presence of these stakeholders reflects a shared commitment to strengthening Indonesia's inclusive and equitable climate policies. Indonesia is one of the countries most vulnerable to climate change impacts, with 3,233 disaster events recorded by BNPB in 2025, mostly hydrometeorological disasters.
The impacts of these disasters are not felt equally by all segments of society, with women and children being the most vulnerable, facing risks to safety, health, protection, and post-disaster livelihood sustainability.
