RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia is one of the world's largest archipelagic countries and has an extensive coastline, providing immense marine potential. With its strategic geography, good governance is needed to achieve a Blue Economy while preserving and managing marine resources for future generations.

The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) continues to strengthen the development of human resources in marine and fisheries as the main foundation for the success of the Blue Economy. This effort is realized through the National Meeting of Development Partners organized by the Center for Marine and Fisheries Training.

To further improve human resources quality, the Agency for Extension and Human Resource Development of Marine and Fisheries (BPPSDM KP) held a National Meeting of Development Partners with partners to evaluate and design a 2026 program. The goal is to strengthen human resources at the ministry and partners through joint education and training.

Head of BPPSDM KP, I Nyoman Radiarta, underscored that the success of the Ministry’s Blue Economy agenda cannot be separated from the readiness of competent, certified, and competitive human resources. Development of the marine and fisheries sector must be accompanied by strengthening human resources capacity throughout the management chain, from capture fisheries, aquaculture, conservation, to supervision.

Meanwhile, Head of  Training Center of Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Lilly Aprilya Pregiwati, stated that this meeting represents Puslat KP's commitment to strengthen collaborative, adaptive, and sustainable human resources development in marine and fisheries.

The ministry  has collaborated with many NGOs in implementing various programs, especially those referring to the Asta Cita program, such as Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) Indonesia, research institutions, RARE Indonesia, and World Wild Fund. Some development partners collaborating with Training Center of Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, have produced 36 training modules and guidelines to support sustainable marine and fisheries management.

Additionally, a Joint Commitment to Develop Marine and Fisheries HR Capacity in Support of the 2026 Blue Economy has been signed by parties to strengthen impactful, sustainable, and integrated training collaboration in the KP training system.

Beneficiary of previous training, Nasrun, a fisherman from Bolaang Mongondow Timur, North Sulawesi, revealed that the training and mentoring he received have provided real benefits, from understanding marine conservation to financial literacy for fisherman household management.
