RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The government has stated that post-disaster infrastructure and education recovery is progressing well. The Minister of Home Affairs, Tito Karnavian, made the statement during a Coordination Meeting on the Acceleration of Post-Natural Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction in the Sumatra Region in Jakarta, Monday, 26 January  2026

He noted that teaching and learning activities in three disaster-affected areas in Sumatra, Aceh, West Sumatra, and North Sumatra, have fully resumed at 100 percent in line with the ongoing acceleration of rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts.

Tito who also serves as Head of the Task Force for the Acceleration of Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction in Sumatra, expressed his appreciation for the hard work of all parties involved. It  included ministries and government agencies, provincial, regency, and municipal governments, as well as non-governmental stakeholders.

“I would like to extend my sincere thanks on behalf of the Task Force and also the Steering Committee for the hard work of all of you, ministries and agencies, as well as local governments at the provincial, regency, and municipal levels, and all non-governmental parties who were also present there,” Tito said.

Based on reports from the Task Force, although all teaching and learning activities have resumed, around 3 percent are still being conducted in temporary classrooms due to post-disaster limitations in facilities. He  underscored that the recovery of the education sector remains a top priority for the government to ensure the continuity of learning for the younger generation in affected areas.

In addition to education, Tito confirmed that government administration in all disaster-affected areas has returned to normal, including in Aceh Tamiang Regency. Local governments at the provincial, regency, and municipal levels have resumed their public service functions.

In the health sector, services have also recovered significantly. Of the 87 regional public hospitals affected, all are now back in operation after nine hospitals had temporarily suspended services.

Meanwhile, out of 867 affected community health centers, 865 are operating normally, while the remaining two are still operating at temporary locations pending the construction of new buildings.

The recovery of basic infrastructure has also shown positive progress. In Aceh Province, less than 1 percent of areas are still undergoing electricity restoration.

In North Sumatra, electricity supply has recovered to 99 percent, while in West Sumatra it has been fully restored at 100 percent. All fuel stations (SPBU) in the three provinces are also back in operation.

Tito added that internet services, fuel oil supplies, and liquefied petroleum gas distribution in the affected areas are relatively stable and operating normally.

Furthermore, all markets in West Sumatra and North Sumatra are operating at 100 percent. In Aceh Province, around 65 percent of markets have resumed operations, while the remainder are still undergoing gradual recovery.
