RRI.CO.ID, West Java - Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, Pratikno affirmed that the government prioritizes saving lives in handling the landslide disaster. It struck Pasirkuning and Pasirkuda villages, Pasirlangu village, Cisarua sub-district, West Bandung Regency.

“The government expresses deep condolences for the deaths of the victims in Cisarua due to landslides and extremely heavy rainfall. Our priority is saving lives. Therefore, search and rescue (SAR) operations are being conducted 24 hours non-stop because there are still about 80 residents who are missing," Pratikno stated after accompanying the Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia during a direct inspection of the disaster site on Sunday, 25 January 2026.

The landslide occurred after heavy rain had battered the West Bandung area since Friday night, 23 January 2026. The waterlogged soil conditions triggered a major landslide at around 3:00 PM Indonesia Western Time, accompanied by flash floodwaters from the hilly areas.

Landslide material and mud swept thru residential areas, burying homes, damaging infrastructure, and cutting off road access. The local government has declared a state of emergency since 23 January 2026, for 14 days to ensure that handling is carried out quickly, integrally, and in a coordinated manner.

In addition to focusing on the search for victims, the government is also ensuring that the handling of deceased victims is carried out optimally and with dignity. The identification process and handover of the body to the family continue to be carried out according to applicable procedures.

"We are handling the victims as optimally and as well as possible, from the identification process to the dignified handover of the bodies to the families," Pratikno stated.

He also added that the protection and services for the refugees are also a major concern of the government. In handling this disaster, the government deployed five main clusters that are working in a coordinated manner in the field, namely the SAR cluster, health, logistics, protection and displacement, and recovery.

The SAR cluster, led by Basarnas along with TNI, Polri, BNPB, and BPBD, deployed over 250 personnel and heavy equipment to expedite the search process. The victims who were successfully evacuated were referred to the nearest hospitals, such as Cililin Regional General Hospital and Soreang Regional General Hospital.

The Health Cluster provides field health posts with 24-hour services, standby ambulances, a referral mechanism for critical victims, and mental health and trauma healing services for survivors. Meanwhile, the Logistics Cluster ensures the availability of food aid, three meals a day, blankets, and emergency tents for the refugees.

The Evacuation and Protection Cluster involves the Ministry of Social Affairs, provincial governments, and district governments providing assistance to affected victim families. Meanwhile, the Recovery Cluster is on standby to support the fulfillment of basic needs while preventing subsequent disasters.
