RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s participation in the Board of Peace (Gaza Peace Council), the newly-established international organization mandated to oversee Gaza’s reconstruction and stabilization, must be active, critical, and conditional, a lawmaker has stressed.

The government is urged to remain consistent in pressing for an end to Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territory while ensuring full protection for civilians in Gaza. Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives’ Commission I, Sukamta, said Indonesia must stand as a guardian of global conscience.

“Peace must not come at the expense of justice or erase accountability for crimes against humanity,” he stated on Sunday, January 25, 2026.

The Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) politician emphasized that Gaza’s reconstruction must be carried out fairly, without whitewashing or legitimizing violations of international humanitarian law. “Indonesia’s independent and active foreign policy must continue to uphold the constitutional mandate,” Sukamta added.

He argued that true peace can only be achieved when justice is enforced and the rights of the Palestinian people are fully and sustainably restored.

While Indonesia calls for principled engagement, the United States has presented a master plan to rebuild the war-torn Gaza Strip. The proposal was unveiled by property developer Jared Kushner during the signing of the Board of Peace in Davos, Switzerland.

Kushner, son-in-law of U.S. President Donald Trump, has been tasked with leading Gaza’s reconstruction. He explained that the plan would mirror the revitalization of several Middle Eastern cities, focusing on waterfront development and modern architecture.

The blueprint includes luxury projects aimed at transforming Gaza’s landscape. Kushner said construction could be completed within two to three years, while the Board of Peace estimates costs will exceed USD 25 billion (IDR 420.8 trillion).

Funds are earmarked for modern utilities and improved public services. “Gaza has extraordinary potential, and this plan is meant for its people,” Kushner noted. He added that his team has developed approaches to ensure comprehensive and sustainable rebuilding.
