RRI.CO.ID, Batam - Minister of Home Affairs, Muhammad Tito Karnavian, has urged the acceleration of the realization of the return of Regional Transfers (TKD) amounting to Rp10.6 trillion to regional governments in three disaster-affected provinces, namely Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra. According to the Minister, this step is intended to accelerate the process of post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction.
Based on the press release issued on Wednesday, 21 January 2026, the Minister explained that the policy to return Regional Transfers was the result of a meeting led by President Prabowo Subianto along with Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa in Hambalang on Saturday, 15 January 17 2026. The meeting decided on the return of TKD for all regencies and cities in the three affected provinces.
“The political decision has been made by the President during the meeting in Hambalang and this is final. This means that all of us, as executors, must jointly carry it out properly,” the Minister said.
He emphasized that the return of Regional Transfers is not only intended for areas directly affected by the disaster, but also covers all regencies and cities in the three provinces. This is aimed at strengthening the fiscal capacity of regional governments in responding to emergency conditions and accelerating regional recovery.
In addition, the Minister also called on regions that were not directly affected by the disaster to use the returned Regional Transfers for prevention and risk control efforts, including maintaining price stability and the purchasing power of the public.
“For other regions that are not affected by disasters, please use this allocation for anticipating disaster prevention and also the impacts of disasters that exist in the regions,” he stated.
The Minister reminded all regional governments to use the returned Regional Transfers in an accountable manner and in accordance with its intended purpose. He stressed that he would not tolerate any misuse of disaster-related funds.
“But remember, do not let it be corrupted or misappropriated. If later, when the Regional Transfers increases for disaster-affected regions, the funds are used not for disaster purposes but for individual projects that have nothing to do with the disaster … then if it comes under investigation by the prosecutor’s office, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), or other law enforcement agencies, I am very confident that the President will be extremely angry,” the Minister stated.
