RRI.CO.ID, Batam - The Indonesian government has once again reaffirmed that Indonesia will not import rice throughout 2026. The assurance was delivered by the Head of the National Food Agency (Bapanas), who also serves as Minister of Agriculture, Andi Amran Sulaiman, after attending the National Working Meeting of the Association of Indonesian Regency Governments in Batam, Riau Islands, on Monday, 19 January 2026.

He emphasized that Indonesia has achieved rice self-sufficiency. According to him, rice stocks produced by domestic farmers are more than sufficient to meet national demand.

“There must be no rice imports; we are already self-sufficient. Our stocks are abundant. This is rice produced by our own people. Tell them, we must love the red and white. Convey the spirit of loving the red and white. This is because we want food sovereignty,” the minister said.

Indonesia’s readiness to go without rice imports is reflected in the Rice Food Balance Projection as of January 6 2026. National rice consumption needs throughout 2026 are estimated at 31.1 million tons, while rice production this year is projected to reach 34.76 million tons.

The surplus is further strengthened by a carry-over stock from 2025 amounting to 12.4 million tons, which serves as the opening stock for 2026. As a result, national rice stocks by the end of 2026 are estimated to remain at around 16.1 million tons.
