RRI.CO.ID, Tangerang – The Indonesian government increased its infrastructure target to revitalize more than 71,000 educational units in the 2026 fiscal year. Another strategy that will be implemented this year is a program for early childhood education as stated by the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Abdul Mu’ti at the inauguration of the “Revitalization of Education Units” held in Tangerang on Wednesday, 14 January 2026.
Minister Mu’ti explained that following the successful renovation of 16,171 schools in 2025 will be continued in 2026. In the previous year, the renovation was backed by IDR 16.9 trillion budget and the government will add another 60,000 schools to the revitalization list this year.
The project focuses on classrooms, laboratories, libraries, and essential sanitation facilities. This massive undertaking is part of President Prabowo Subianto’s national mandate to eliminate substandard school facilities across the archipelago by the end of 2029.
“The President has repeatedly stated that revitalization efforts will be expanded by 60,000 units this year, bringing the total to over 71,000 educational units in 2026. Through this initiative, we hope that by the end of 2029, there will no longer be schools with poor structures, leaking roofs, or inadequate sanitation,” Minister Mu’ti stated in his speech.
A critical component of the 2026 fiscal strategy is the expansion of the Indonesia Bright Program (PIP) specifically for early childhood education. The Ministry has officially allocated funding for 888,000 kindergarten students, who will each receive IDR 450,000 per year.
This move supports the government’s "13-Year Compulsory Education" mandate and the "One Village, One PAUD" initiative.
Minister Mu’ti highlighted that these specific figures are part of a coordinated effort from the government. It is to ensure that the transition to primary education is supported by strong financial and institutional foundations at the village level.
“We are providing PIP assistance for kindergarten students at IDR 450,000 per year, with an allocation for 888,000 students in 2026. Furthermore, the 2026 revitalization program, already secured in the national budget, covers over 11.7 million educational components across the system,” he stated.
