RRI.CO.ID, IKN - The Indonesian government continues to ensure the readiness of the Nusantara Capital City (IKN), as a center of government activities as well as a space for social, spiritual, and cultural interaction. Minister of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Nasaruddin Umar, affirmed that accelerating the development of religious facilities is a crucial part of realizing IKN as an inclusive capital that reflects interfaith harmony.

“With this, we will further accelerate our office activities here, because this is a source of national pride. The sooner it is seen by the world, the better it will be. God willing, this aligns with the President’s vision that IKN will become an iconic symbol of Indonesia that we can all be proud of,” Nasaruddin stated in a written statement on Sunday, 11 January 2026. The Nusantara Religious Complex is designed as an interfaith worship area within IKN.

The complex already includes Masjid Negara or the IKN State Mosque as the center of Islamic religious activities. In addition, a Basilica intended for Catholic worship is currently entering its final stages of construction. Going forward, the Nusantara Religious Complex will also be equipped with a Christian church, a Hindu temple, and a Buddhist vihara.

During an inspection alongside the Head of the IKN Authority, Basuki Hadimuljono, to review the operational readiness of the IKN State Mosque, Nasaruddin reiterated his full support for the development of IKN, particularly the Nusantara Religious Complex as a shared worship space for different faiths. He expressed hope that the IKN State Mosque will begin operating actively as a center for religious activities during the upcoming holy month of Ramadan.

“I, along with Mr. Bas (Basuki Hadimuljono), are seeking to optimize the use of what we consider the most beautiful mosque in Indonesia today, the IKN State Mosque, ahead of the holy month of Ramadan and prior to the President’s planned visit. We are reviewing the extent of preparations, as God willing, during the upcoming Ramadan the IKN State Mosque will begin to be actively utilized,” Nasaruddin said.

Located within the Nusantara Religious Complex, the IKN State Mosque consists of four main floors and two mezzanine levels. The building covers an area of 76,647 square meters and can accommodate up to 29,095 worshippers. In the future, the mosque is planned to be further expanded to accommodate up to 60,000 worshippers in line with the growing activities and population in Nusantara.

The development of this religious complex is expected to serve as a tangible reflection of Indonesia’s vision of upholding tolerance and religious moderation amid modern development.
