RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Police found that 70 students are members of social media groups affiliated with the True Crime Community (TCC). The community-based subculture has been proven to have inspired acts of extremism and terrorism by teenagers.
However, the National Police’s Special Detachment 88 (Densus 88) analyst, Senior Commissioner Mayndra Eka Wardana, said most of them have undergone assessment and counseling. The National Police, the National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT), and the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education are now working to provide psychosocial aid to them through a non-legal approach.
"Of these 70 students, approximately 67 have undergone assessment, mapping, counseling, and so on, involving various stakeholders in their respective regions," he said in a press conference on Wednesday, 7 January 2026.
Mayndra explained that the groups circulated short videos, animations, and music that glorify extremism as inspiration for violent acts, including the use of far-right symbols such as Neo-Nazism and white supremacist symbols. Thus, Densus 88 warned of the potential for terrorism if radical extremist ideology is left unchecked, as it could inspire similar behavior.
“Children like these, if they are not handled, will indeed move into extremism, then radicalism, and then terrorism,” the Head of the National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT), Police Commissioner General Eddy Hartono stated.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education is drafting a ministerial regulation to establish a safe and comfortable school culture. The Inspector General of the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, Faisal Syahrul, hopes that all elements of schools can be involved in early detection.
“Even the minister (Abdul Mu'ti) expects that every teacher will later be able to function as a guidance and counseling teacher, even if not as intensively as those who are formally counseling teachers,” he said.
On the other hand, the Chair of the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI), Margaret Aliyatul Maimunah, said that the children in this case are victims, so they need protection and handling efforts based on their best interests. Therefore, KPAI is encouraging a number of measures, ranging from strengthening child support systems and strengthening child protection in schools to taking action against bullying practices.
“Considering that bullying practices are one of the backgrounds that expose children to this, we also need efforts to strengthen collaboration in firm enforcement and the eradication of bullying practices among children,” she said.
According to the Institute for Strategic Dialogue (ISD), the True Crime Community refers to the online fandom interested in true-crime media. However, in this context, it refers to the most extreme participants who obsess over high-profile killers and sometimes attempt similar violence.
