KBRN, Banda Aceh: Daya Anagata Nusantara (Danantara) Indonesia and the Agency for State-Owned Enterprises (BP BUMN) announced on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, that hundreds of temporary shelters (huntara) for those displaced by recent catastrophic flooding, are now standing in Aceh Tamiang.

The project is part of a massive regional humanitarian mission to build 15,000 shelters across the disaster-hit provinces of Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.

Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Danantara Indonesia, Dony Oskaria, personally inspected the construction progress on land provided by state-owned plantation firm PTPN. He emphasized that the initiative is a high-priority mandate to transition refugees into safe and dignified housing.

"This step represents a real commitment to immediately provide decent and safe housing for the refugees," said Dony in Banda Aceh, as quoted by Antara.

To meet tight year-end deadlines, seven state-owned construction firms (BUMN Karya) are utilizing modular design technology. This method allows for rapid assembly without compromising structural integrity, enabling the teams to erect hundreds of units in record time.

The shelter complexes are designed as integrated communities rather than just temporary camps, featuring a range of essential amenities such as shared bathrooms, communal kitchens, and prayer rooms (mushala). To ensure these areas are fully functional, the units are equipped with full utility support, including reliable electricity provided by PLN and high-speed connectivity ensured by Telkom.

Furthermore, the project benefits from strong financial backing through strategic funding from the State-Owned Banks Association (Himbara), which guarantees that all social and public facilities remain fully operational for the residents.

The Aceh Tamiang project serves as a pilot for Danantara’s broader 15,000-unit target. Dony Oskaria, who also serves as the Head of BP BUMN, noted that the synergy between various state corporations, from construction to telecommunications, is key to the government's strategy of "building back better" after the recent hydrometeorological crisis in Sumatra.

With the first few hundred units already standing, the government aims to continue this momentum throughout the first quarter of 2026, ensuring that no flood victim is left without a proper roof over their head during the transition to permanent housing. ***
