KBRN, Jakarta: Marking a historic turning point for female empowerment, the Indonesian Women's Congress (Kowani) Chairwoman Nannie Hadi Tjahjanto declared Monday, December 22, 2025, as a day to celebrate the "milestone of women's awakening" in Indonesia.

The organization urged the public to reinterpret Mother's Day as a day of dedication and service, reminding the nation that the event’s origins are inextricably linked to the early struggle for Indonesian independence and social progress.

“Mother's Day was born from the First Indonesian Women's Congress on December 22, 1928. This is a milestone in the awakening of Indonesian women's awareness as subjects of struggle, development, and national civilization,” said Nannie in Jakarta on Monday, December 22, 2025, as quoted by Antara.

She also asserted that the December 22nd Mother's Day in Indonesia is essentially Indonesian Women's Day, representing the strategic partnership between women and the state. Nannie added that women serve as educators of generations, guardians of values, and the strength behind every family.

During this 97th Mother's Day, Kowani expressed national solidarity and condolences for the victims of floods and landslides in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra. The organization highlighted the severe humanitarian impact of these disasters, particularly on women, children, and the elderly.

Facing the demographic bonus, Kowani reaffirmed its commitment to strategic issues such as women's health, stunting, and anemia prevention. The group also focuses on tuberculosis prevention, stopping violence against women and children, and eradicating human trafficking and exploitation.

As Kowani approaches its centenary and enters the final 1,000 days toward its second century, the organization stresses that this phase must be defined by real action rather than euphoria. All women's movements are currently directed toward supporting sustainable development and creating superior human resources for Indonesia Emas 2045.

Furthermore, Kowani called for a unified national women's movement to "STOP Drugs, STOP Violence, STOP Human Trafficking, STOP Abandoned Children, and STOP TB." This movement is designed to protect the future of the nation and ensure a civilized society.

“The 97th Mother's Day is a momentum for collective service. When Indonesian women are healthy, empowered, and dignified, this nation will step confidently into the future,” Nannie concluded. ***
