KBRN, Jakarta: The Indonesian government has begun planning the post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction phase following the recent floods and landslides across Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra, even while the emergency response remains the central focus.
"So, our focus right now is the emergency response. At the same time, we are also starting to plan for rehabilitation and reconstruction, the preparation of temporary housing, and the preparation of permanent housing," said Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Cultural Affairs, Pratikno in a statement in Jakarta on Monday, December 1, 2025, as quoted by Antara.
He made the announcement during a Disaster Emergency Management Coordination Meeting held at Silangit Airport, North Tapanuli, North Sumatra. The government aims to conclude the emergency response phase quickly, transitioning to the rehabilitation and reconstruction stages as rapidly as possible.
"This is so that the community can recover immediately and resume normal activities, and also to make them more resilient in facing future disasters," he said.
The Minister acknowledged that the government has encountered several issues during the disaster management process but affirmed that efforts to mobilize resources to assist the affected victims will continue relentlessly.
"We face many constraints, for example, the deployment of heavy equipment is not easy, but we will continuously strive to overcome them," the Minister said.
He also expressed his gratitude to the military, police, volunteers, and all parties working tirelessly on the ground to manage the floods and landslides in Sumatra.
"Thank you to the National Police Chief (General Listyo Sigit Prabowo) who is here with us. His ranks, along with the TNI [Indonesian Military], are also doing extraordinary work, working hard on the ground with their command posts to help the community," Minister Pratikno concluded. ***
