KBRN, Jakarta: The Language Development and Cultivation Agency of Indonesia continuously promotes the internationalization of Indonesian literature on the global stage. The initiative aims at fostering cultural diplomacy and collaboration among writers from BRICS member countries.

During the BRICS Literature Award press conference in Jakarta, Monday (10/27/2025), Secretary of the Language Agency, Ganjar Harimansyah, conveyed Indonesia’s commitment to enhancing global literary exchange. He highlighted that literature serves as a bridge connecting nations through shared creativity and cultural understanding.

According to him, maintaining a balanced literary ecosystem is key to ensuring sustainable development of the arts. He also expressed appreciation for the BRICS Literature Award as part of Indonesia’s broader efforts to promote both the Indonesian language and its literary achievements internationally.

“What is even more important is maintaining the balance of the literary ecosystem itself,” Ganjar said. “Through the BRICS Literature Award, we truly appreciate this initiative, especially as it aligns with our mission to internationalize the Indonesian language and literature.”

The event is also supported by the Co-Chairman of the BRICS Literature Network from Russia, Vadim Terekhin. He expressed optimism that literary partnerships between Indonesia and other BRICS nations would bring mutual benefits and fresh perspectives.

“Russian writers plan to take the best of what has been developed in Indonesia and transplant it into Russian soil,” Terekhin said. “I hope this process will be mutually beneficial and help writers discover who they are in the modern world while moving forward together.”

The BRICS Literature Award was established in November 2024 during the BRICS Forum “Traditional Values” in Moscow. The award serves as a symbol of the collective cultural vision of BRICS nations Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa and now includes Indonesia as an active partner in literary dialogue.

Through this collaboration, Indonesia seeks to position its literature as part of the global creative landscape. The government hopes that initiatives like the BRICS Literature Award will not only elevate the nation’s literary presence but also strengthen its role in promoting intercultural understanding worldwide.
