KBRN, Jakarta: Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto enacted a series of ministerial appointments and cabinet changes on Monday afternoon, September 8, 2025, in a ceremony at the State Palace in Jakarta.
The reshuffle marks a strategic recalibration of the Merah Putih Cabinet, with several key positions filled and others temporarily left vacant.
State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi confirmed the changes earlier in the day, noting that the President had signed off on the establishment of the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, along with the appointment of its minister and deputy minister.
“This afternoon, the President is making adjustments to the cabinet lineup across several ministries,” Prasetyo said, as quoted by rri.co.id.
Among the newly appointed officials are Ferry Juliantoro as Minister of Cooperatives, Purbaya Yudi Sadewa as Minister of Finance, Mochammed Irfan Yusuf as Minister of Hajj, and Mukhtarudin as Minister of Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection (P2MI), replacing Abdul Kadir Karding. Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak was sworn in as Deputy Minister of Hajj and Umrah.
The appointments were formalized through Presidential Decree No. 86P/2025 and took place at the State Palace in Jakarta.
The ceremony included the reading of the decree, oath-taking, and signing of official documents, followed by congratulations from the President, Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, and cabinet members.
However, not all positions were immediately filled. Minister Prasetyo acknowledged that the role of Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs (Menkopolkam) would be temporarily held by an ad interim appointee, though he declined to name the individual.
Speculation that the defense minister might assume the role was left unconfirmed. “It hasn’t been signed yet, so we cannot disclose it,” he said.
Similarly, the appointment of a new Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) was delayed due to the designated candidate being out of town and unable to attend the ceremony.
“These decisions reflect the President’s careful consideration and commitment to strengthening governance. We hope this reshuffle brings positive momentum for the nation,” Prasetyo concluded. ***
