KBRN, Jakarta: Indonesia’s gaming industry has the potential to contribute up to IDR 700 trillion (approximately USD 42.95 billion) to the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP), according to the Ministry of Creative Economy (Kemenekraf). The sector is also projected to absorb millions of workers across various fields.

Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene Umar said that the hosting of Indonesia Game Week (IGW) 2025 is expected to further unlock this potential.

She described the event as a strategic platform for cross-ministerial and institutional collaboration aimed at strengthening the local gaming ecosystem.

“This is an incredible arena to showcase Indonesia’s high-quality games. Some were developed in just 10 days with impressive results. Imagine what could be achieved with months of development,” Irene said after attending IGW 2025 in South Jakarta on Saturday, August 9, 2025.

She emphasized that advancing the gaming industry requires full collaboration among government bodies, communities, associations, and businesses. Such cooperation, she noted, is essential for building a sustainable ecosystem and creating broader employment opportunities.

“It’s dull to buy a console without games. That’s why we need people to create content for it, and that opens up jobs. In gaming competitions, for instance, you have commentators, referees, event organizers, and media coverage,” Irene explained.

Indonesia Game Week 2025, held from August 6–10, was initiated by several ministries and related institutions, including the Ministry of Creative Economy, Gamecomm, the Jakarta Regional Development Planning Agency (Bappeda), and the Ministry of Elementary and Secondary Education (Kemendasmen).

The event serves as a strategic vehicle for expanding the local gaming sector through a variety of initiatives. Its programs include a cosplay competition, an intellectual property exhibition, portfolio reviews, game trials, talk shows, and a job fair dedicated to the gaming industry. ***
