KBRN, Probolinggo: Indonesia’s Minister of Culture, Fadli Zon, attended the 2025 Yadnya Kasada ceremony held at Pura Luhur Poten in the Bromo area of Probolinggo, East Java, Wednesday, (11/06/2025). The ritual, rooted in Tenggerese tradition, is considered one of Indonesia’s most meaningful living heritage practices and has strong potential as an international cultural attraction.

The Minister stated that the Yadnya Kasada ceremony reflects the Tengger community’s deep gratitude to the Creator and respect for ancestral spirits connected to Mount Bromo. "This tradition is a rich expression of gratitude to God and an important cultural practice that we must preserve," he said after participating in the ceremony.

Yadnya Kasada is held annually during the 12th month of the Tenggerese calendar, coinciding with the full moon. The highlight of the ritual involves throwing offerings into the Bromo crater—an act of devotion to Sang Hyang Widhi and homage to ancestral spirits.

Minister Fadli emphasized that Bromo's cultural wealth and stunning natural landscape can appeal to international audiences. "We hope this tradition will be preserved and that more visitors, including from abroad, come to experience the richness of Indonesia’s heritage, its values of tolerance, and the impressive beauty of Bromo," he noted.

He also stressed the need to protect the environment amid increasing tourist activity. While acknowledging potential impacts such as littering, he praised the Tengger community for maintaining their surroundings through collective clean-up efforts shortly after the celebrations.

Joining the Minister during the event were Rachmanda Primayuda, Special Advisor on Protocol and Household Affairs; Basuki Teguh Yuwono, Special Advisor on Historical and Cultural Heritage; and Sjamsul Hadi, Director of Belief in One Almighty God and Indigenous Communities.

As part of the Yadnya Kasada series, Minister Fadli also participated in Tengger Nandur, a tree-planting ceremony in Ngadipuro Village. This initiative reflects the cultural and spiritual harmony of the Tengger people, combining environmental preservation with religious values through reforestation of sacred areas.

The Ministry of Culture praised the Tengger customary law community for preserving their ancestral traditions. According to Minister Fadli, the cultural wisdom of the Tengger people is not only a local treasure but a vital part of Indonesia’s national heritage that deserves recognition and support on the global stage.
